Junious "Bubba" Joyner, Jr.

March 31, 1944 — April 6, 2021

On the morning of Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Junious C. Joyner, affectionately known as “Bubba”, went home to be with the Lord. He was born to Junious and Frances Joyner on March 31, 1944. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Katherine L. Joyner and son Maxie Bailey.

He also leaves two sisters: Dale Jordan and Millisa Palmer (William) and two brothers: Michael Randall and Ira Joyner. He is predeceased by his son, Jamar Joyner, his brother Julius H. Joyner and sisters Deborah D. Reid and Blynder Grant.  He leaves five grandchildren: Devon Joyner, Kingston Joyner, Zion Joyner, Nasir Joyner, and Major Joyner and one great-grandchild, Lilliana Renae Joyner. He also leaves special nephews: Scottie Smith, Donell Grant, Christopher Towns, Travious Grant and Jovawn Smith and special friend Larry Kendricks. He also leaves a host nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

Bubba was an Army Veteran with a love for the outdoors. His passion led him to be the Park Foreman for Nike Park in Smithfield, Virginia for many years. He later began working at Franklin Public Works as a Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 2005. After retiring, his love for children led him to work with the public schools of Franklin and Isle of Wight as a dedicated bus driver. Beloved by the community, Bubba was known as the ultimate outdoorsman, both in hunting and fishing. He loved to expose others to the great outdoors, especially youths, teaching them to hunt and fish. He had a true love for sports. Sundays you could find him watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Many will remember Bubba as a coach for the Windsor Knights Football team or as a passionate baseball player. At family events, he was often the grill master, smoking pigs and steaming crabs. He had a love for traveling and was well known for his infectious smile and quick wit. Bubba was a family man and a father to many sons and daughters. Bubba served his country, community, family and now continues in the service of the Lord as he did while a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church. He will be truly missed by all who came to know him.

A Drive-in Celebration of Life will be held 1pm Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 2-4pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mr. Joyner is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Joyner family in your thoughts and prayers.
