The Obituary

The Life of Willie James Warren

 

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Willie James Warren left his earthly home. He was born October 14, 1936, to the late James and Josephine Wellons Warren.

He attended Isle of Wight Training School and retired from Gwaltney Packing Plant.

Willie kept active by working at Gwaltney of Smithfield most of his life and Powhatan Cement Company in Petersburg, Virginia. He loved cutting wood, cutting grass and the gospel music ministry.

He was a gospel singer with the Heavenly Lights of Franklin, Virginia, and a gospel promoter on radio 1250 am Saturday and Sunday mornings. He once served as a deacon at the New Hope and Old Cool Spring Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Goodwyn.

Willie was preceded in death by his son Christopher Warren and daughter Patricia Warren.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Cynthia O. Warren of Smithfield, Virginia; three sons William Warren, Michael Warren, and Terry Warren all of Jersey City, New Jersey; nine granddaughters, and one special nephew, Clinton Turner of Suffolk, Virginia, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. 

On Tuesday, October 31, 2023 a viewing will be held from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration Of Life will take place 11am Wednesday, November 1, 2023 also at the Chapel. Interment will be private. Please keep the Warren family in your thoughts and prayers.
