William C. Thomas Jr., affectionately known as “Junnie,” departed this life on July 31, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on February 28, 1955, he was the beloved son of the late William “Will Jack” C. Thomas Sr. and Pearlie Mae Ellsworth Thomas.
Junnie was a gentle, kind-hearted soul who brought light and joy to everyone around him. He embraced life with simplicity, love, and a pure heart that made him unforgettable to all who knew him. He especially loved to sing and dance with those he loved, and he found happiness in the simple pleasures of life.
He received his education through Southampton County Public Schools and joined Pleasant Plain Baptist Church at an early age. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Holy Ground Temple of Deliverance, under the leadership of Pastor Wilbur Davis, where he continued to nurture his faith. Though Junnie had no children of his own, he cherished his role as uncle and great-uncle. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he found great joy in spending time with them.
Junnie was predeceased by his father, William C. Thomas Sr.; his mother, Pearlie Mae Ellsworth Thomas; and one brother, Kenneth W. Thomas (Valerie). He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: Michael E. Vaden (Ora “Lynelle”) of Smithfield, Virginia; Rodney L. Thomas (Annie) of Portsmouth, Virginia; and Peyton R. Thomas of Franklin, Virginia. He is also survived by his sisters: Patricia T. Harris of Petersburg, Virginia; Arlean T. Simms (Thomas) of Franklin, Virginia; and Holly T. Wilkerson (Mack) of Suffolk, Virginia. His god-brother, Milton Wyche (Crystal) of Ahoskie, North Carolina, also mourns his passing. His loving sister and brother-in-law, Holly and Mack Wilkerson, served as his dedicated caretakers until his passing, providing unwavering love, support, and comfort through the years. Junnie also leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends who were all blessed by his life and love.
"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." — Matthew 5:8.
