William Thomas Edwards

William Thomas Edwards, 79 was called home by the Lord thy God on Sunday, September 12,2021 at Riverside Medical Center in Newport News, VA. William T” Puddin” Edwards was born in Isle of Wight County on September 4, 1942 to the late Clarence J. and Emily Davis Edwards. After living in New Jersey for the past 40 years William moved back home to Smithfield, VA in 2019 to be close to his family. William was the funniest unpaid comedian any family did not have to hire. He will be truly missed not only by his family but, also his friends and associates who gave him the nickname Peter Murphy because of his jokes. He loved to play the piano and as a young man played with several local bands in the Smithfield area. William is predeceased by his parents, four brothers; Rufus, Clarence, George and Bobby Edwards; two sisters; Maggie M. Edwards and Jane “Bea” Young. William leaves behind loved ones who he intently prayed for each and every day. Three brothers; James, Shirley (Bea) Edwards both of Smithfield, VA, and David (Eloise) Edwards of Northern, VA; Six sisters; Gladys Johnson, Viola Carroll, Marion (Theron) Blount, Pastor Sylvia Edwards, (who was instrumental in helping William relocate to Smithfield)and Sarah Jean Edwards all of Smithfield, VA, and Irene (Larry) Webb of Pendleton South Carolina; brother-in-law Howard Young of Ashland, VA and sister-in-law Joyce Edwards of Windsor, VA. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a special niece, Lisa Chapman who he became very close to and relied on to take care of his affairs. We will remember the most important thing William would say is “I have made peace with my Maker” A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 20, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel BY INVITATION ONLY. Limited attendance will be strictly adhered to and required. Viewing will take place from 2-4 PM Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Chapel. Please Keep the Edwards family in your thoughts and prayers.
