"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:2-3 Wilbert B. Chavis Jr., 63, was born July 22, 1957 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Cora Lee Simpson and Wilbert Chavis, Sr. He dedicated himself to Newport News Shipbuilding, where he retired after forty -two years of service as a master Shipbuilder in Department X33. Ninney was a humble man who loved his daughter and grandchildren with everything in him. Ninny loved playing the lottery and fishing. People could always depend on Ninny for a good number. His favorite saying was :ask me no questions, I"ll tell you no lies. Along with his parents, Wilbert B. Chavis was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle Ethel and James Gatewood. He is survived by one daughter Latasha Chavis; two grandchildren Naszir Brown and Kayson Daniels; four siblings; Wilbur Chavis(his twin brother), Barbara Anne Collins (Charles), Willie Alex Reid (Linda), and Julius Simpson; longtime companion Ginelle James, a very special cousin Ray Parker and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12PM Friday, October 16, 202 at Shivers Funeral Chapel BY INVITATION ONLY.In compliance with CDC guidelines, limited attendance will be adhered to and required. The service will be live streamed on the Shivers Funeral Chapel Facebook page. Viewing will take place Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
