On the evening of Tuesday, June 11, 2024 God, called His beloved son, Waverly Palmer home to his eternal resting place.
“Do ye believe? Behold the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulations: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” ~ John 16:31-33 ~
Waverly was born in Surry County, VA on July 16, 1944 to the late Nathaniel and Viola Palmer.
Due to illness, Waverly retired after 30 years of employment from the Gwaltney Meat Packing Plant of Smithfield Virginia. He attended the Poplar Lawn Baptist Church until his illness took a toll on his ability to get around. From this point he became a resident of the Wakefield Nursing Home.
Waverly was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and was proud to wear their hats, jackets, and anything else bearing the Dallas Cowboys name and symbol. He also loved going on bus trips with some of his friends. One other thing that Waverly loved was listening to music and dancing, especially doing the “bump”.
Waverly was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Viola Palmer; his brothers, Johnny Mack Palmer, Willie Lewis Palmer, Douglas Palmer, George Lee Palmer, Jones Palmer, and James “Bob” Palmer; Waverly leaves behind to mourn his passing, three daughters, Theresa Watson of Conway, SC, Tammy Traynham of Richmond, VA, and Jeanette Timmons of Petersburg, VA; three sisters, Jennie Stevenson of Dendron, VA, Viester Ruspus, and Perlene Montgomery (Reubin) of Surry, VA; two brothers, Milton Palmer, of Waverly, VA, and Otis Palmer (Diana) of Surry, VA; four grandchildren, Jade Seymore of Tampa FL, Jerrod Traynham of Richmond, VA, Joliena Drew, and Monteanna Drew of Petersburg, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
“Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free!
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, or play
I found that peace at the end of the day!”
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
~ John 3:16 ~
