Walter H. Tynes, Jr., 61, a native of Isle of Wight County, departed this life, Monday, August 25, 2014 at home surrounded by family. Walter, born on January 29, 1953, affectionately known as "Bug", was born to the late Walter H. Tynes, Sr. and Octavia Bailey Tynes.He was a 1971 graduate of Smithfield High School. He joined Sandy Mount Baptist Church at an early age. Walter was employed at GE from 1971-1973, then joined the Air Force, where he served from 1973-1977. After his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed at Dominion Virginia Power Plant (Vepco) in Aug. 1977, where he worked until his health failed. While serving in the military, Walter met his soulmate, Wilma; the two united as one on September 1, 1979. He rededicated his life to Christ in early 1990's, while in the church he served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Trustee and sang in the Senior Choir. He was an avid motorcycle rider and a Trustee of the Mass Production Motorcycle Club. He was a member of the "County Cruisers" Van Club and the Corvette Club. He loved traveling, camping and the outdoors. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan. As he matured, Walt became the peace maker of the family, for he did not like a lot of confusion and drama.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Wilma, a daughter, Shannan Wheeler (Micheal) of Newport News, a son, Gregory Tynes of Smithfield, three sisters, Valerie Hicks, LaTanya Rogers (Frank), Dionne Chapman all of Smithfield, four brothers, Barry Tynes (Sandra), Andre Tynes (June), Sean Tynes (Sheila), all of Smithfield, Reginald Tynes of Newport News. Two grandchildren De'Landis Frazier and Domineke Frazier.One uncle, Albert Tynes (Clara) of Glen Burnie, MD, three aunts, Ida Hundley (Winston), Ernestine Davis (Roosevelt) and Carrie Bailey, all of Smithfield.Father and Mother-in-law, John and Louise Frazier.Two brothers-in-law, Fulton Frazier and Keith Frazier (Francis).Sisters-in-law, Patricia Sanchious (Nathaniel), Sheila Hopkins, Beverly Parrish (Reginald), Pamela Frazier and Sharonda Frazier and beloved grand pets Roxy, Kilo and Khloe. Three god daughters, Consuelo Taylor, Jasmine Shanchious and Shatiea Frazier-Love. a special niece Natalie Gregory and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be he on Friday, Aug. 29th at Shivers Funeral Chapel from 4pm to 7pm.Service will be held, Sat. August 30th, 12 noon at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Arrangements by Shivers Funeral Chapel.
