Walter Edward Jones

December 20, 1941-July 13, 2026

Walter Edward Jones was born on December 20, 1941 to the late Jeneva Jones and Joseph Newby.

Walter E. Jones entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Glenburnie Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Henrico, VA.

Walter was a faithful member of Little Zion Baptist Church. He had a quiet and humble spirit.

Walter attended Paul D. camp Community College, where he studied to be an electrician. His professional life includes serving in the United States Army and he was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked at Smithfield Packing Company and retired from Chippokes State Park.

Walter was a member of the Freemasons and the Radio Club of Smithfield.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene H. M. Jones, his parents, his brothers, Walter Newby and Joseph Newby and his sister Charlette Newby.

He is survived by his loving daughter Lanique Moore and his sons Edward Jones and Chris Jones; his stepchildren; Erlene, Arlene, Valerie, Lisa Ferina and Brenda; his brothers, John Brumley and James Brumley and many other family members and friends

Viewing will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 3-6 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 pm Friday, July 24, 2026, at Little Zion Baptist Church. Interement will follow the service in Mt Ray Cemetery, Surry, VA. Please keep the Jones family in your thoughts and prayers.
