In Loving Memory

On August 23, 2026, the angels came and peacefully claimed the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Virginia Louise Croker Gipson, affectionately known as “Jenny,” at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Jenny was educated in the Isle of Wight County school system. She was a faithful member of Campbell’s Chapel AME Church in Carrollton, Virginia, where she lovingly served on the Senior Choir, Usher Board, and Faith, Hope and Charity Club until her health began to decline.

Throughout her life, Jenny held several roles that reflected her hardworking and caring spirit. She was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding, worked as a caregiver in Isle of Wight County, and devoted many years to caring for her home and family.

Jenny was a sweet, kind, and gentle soul whose love for her family was evident to everyone who knew her. She was a true social butterfly who enjoyed being around others and could certainly appreciate a good shopping trip. Through life’s ups and downs, Jenny rarely complained and carried herself with grace. Her warm spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Eartha Croker; her grandmother, Lillie Marie Johnson; her beloved husband, Willie J. Gipson; her son, Jerome L. Croker; as well as two brothers and three sisters.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Jennifer R. Alexander of Newport News, Virginia; her son, Wenzale Gipson (Carletta) of Hampton, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Noah Gipson, Heaven Gipson, Uzziah Gipson, Zuri Gipson, Davion Perry, Angie Boyd, Michael Alexander, and Miguel Alexander; one sister, Diane Barrow of Hampton, Virginia; one sister-in-love, Sarah Croker of Carrollton, Virginia; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Though Jenny’s earthly journey has come to an end, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

On Tuesday, September 01, 2026, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1pm on Wednesday, September 02, 2026 at Campbell's Chapel A.M.E. Church. Interment will follow in the Albert G.Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran Cemetery at a later date. Please keep the Croker and Gipson family in your prayers.
