Viola Katherine Roberts Chapman

Viola K. Roberts Chapman, affectionately known as “Kat”, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on May 7,2026, at the age of 75, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 7, 1950 to the late Elnora and Elmo Roberts. As the third child of six, she was the only girl and was spoiled as such. Kat graduated from Westside High School in 1969. She attended Norfolk State University for two years. At an early age, Kat accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted member at Sandy Mount Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed her. She was involved in multiple ministries throughout her time there. She also founded a community choir, the B.C. Heritage Choir, in honor of her late husband. She was employed by GE, AVON and Isle of Wight County Public School System as a bus aide.

Kat is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bert Chapman, son, Darrell Chapman and brothers, William, Frederick, Daniel and Ronzell Roberts. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Donzell Roberts (Sarah), two sister in laws, Valerie Roberts and Joyce Roberts, her three loving bonus children, Kenneth (Jenine), Dr. Andria Chapman-Taliaferro (Carlos) and Michelle Chapman-Bridges (Al), ten grandchildren, TaKeya (LaTasha), Cariana (Keyon), Darielle, Aniya, Cameron, Quiera, Ciani, Ansolei, Chanara and Elvis, two great-grandchildren Samaiya and Adrianna, two loving and devoted aides/friends, Jackie Hill and Prentis Picott, her beloved pet Chico and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her tremendously.

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Sandy Mount Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Emmanuel Church Cemetery. Please keep the Roberts and Chapman in your prayers.
