Vincent Wayne Batten "Poochie" was born on July 15, 1966, to the late Asa Batten Sr. and the late Catherine Pierce Batten of Carrollton, Virginia. He received his education in Isle of Wight County Public Schools and attended Smithfield High School, Class of 1984, where he proudly played basketball and developed a love for Mathematics.
He later worked faithfully at Food Lion in Carrollton until his health began to decline. Poochie had a deep passion for sports and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially playing cards and sharing laughter during family gatherings. Known for his kind and generous spirit, he was always willing to help others whenever he could. Poochie knew the Bible, but not only did he know it, he had a relationship with God. On Sunday, December 21, 2025, Poochie gained his heavenly wings and entered into eternal rest at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Vincent W. Batten Jr. (Ambria) of Waverly, VA; Michele Crawley of Decatur, GA; and Makayla Anderson of Suffolk, VA; along with four beloved grandchildren: Mehki Batten, Alex Batten, Vachon Biggs Jr., and Elijah Duke Styers. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Debra Batten Davis; Sandy Batten Warren (Victor) of Carrollton, VA; Dionne Batten Rowlett (Ernest) of Florence, AL; Randy Hamlin; Asa Batten Jr. of Newport News, VA; and Demond Batten (Candace) of Smithfield, VA. He is lovingly remembered by a host of aunts and uncles, including Charles Pierce of Yorktown, VA; Illinois Batten of Kentucky; Mable Taliaferro; Sylvia Batten; Maxine McCargo of Smithfield, VA; Sarah Croker; Valine Pierce of Carrollton, VA; Arlene Godwin of Suffolk, VA; Marilyn Mizell of Norfolk, VA; Betty West of Portsmouth, VA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
