On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, our all-wise and sovereign God called our precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Veronica Diane Butler Williams, from labor to reward. Affectionately known as “Ronica” by family and friends, she was born in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, on November 24, 1951, to Vernon P. “Little Man” Butler and Willie Mae Booker Butler. She was lovingly raised by her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Virgie Hill.
At an early age, Veronica was baptized and joined Chapel Grove United Church of Christ in Windsor, VA. She was educated in the Isle of Wight County Public School System and proudly graduated from Georgie Tyler High School in 1970. After graduation, she moved to New Jersey, where she continued her education and earned a degree in Financial Administration from Pace University in New York. Veronica enjoyed a successful 28-year career with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where she worked diligently as a Claims Analyst and Office Manager until her retirement. She approached her work with integrity, dedication, and professionalism.
Veronica’s presence brought joy to all who knew her. She loved watching her favorite soap operas, comedies, movies, and football—especially cheering for her beloved New York Giants. She had a contagious laugh, a bright smile, and a fun-loving spirit. Ronica cherished dancing, shopping for designer purses, shoes, and suits, traveling to Las Vegas, driving home to Virginia, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.
Veronica is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon P. Butler and Willie Mae Booker Butler; her guardians, Joseph and Virgie Hill; her sisters Bernice “Chicken” Nelson, Margie Smith, Edna “Sister” Stokes Hill, and Udessa Liggins; her brothers Alton Hill, and John Wesley “JT” Hill; and her husband, Clifford Williams, ten aunts and nine uncles. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her son, Damian Bargaineer (Parlin, NJ); two siblings, Julia Butler Liggins (Windsor, VA) and Vernon Ross Butler (Suffolk, VA); two aunts, Virginia Booker, Smithfield, VA and Corine Booker, Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, Kaiya (High Point, NC), Justin (Winston-Salem, NC), Layla, and Quinton (Parlin, NJ); one great-grandson, Ashur McIntyre (High Point, NC); two stepchildren, Tamara Johnson and Kipling Johnson (both of Brooklyn, NY). She also leaves behind special friends Sandra High, Toni Foster, and Catherine West, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Her memory will forever be cherished, and her love will continue to guide the hearts of all she touched!
A Service to Celebrate her life will be held 12:00pm Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, 12749 Courthouse Highway, Smithfield, VA 23430. Please keep the Butler and Williams family in your prayers.
