Vernice V. Allmond

October 14, 1944 — April 12, 2026

Vernice V. Allmond transitioned from this life on April 12, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with her health. She was preceded in death by her father, Zollie L. Allmond; mother, Susie Pearle Helen Allmond; sisters, Mary Jane Richardson, Mildred C. Mann, Iris C. Ricks; and brother, Wilbert L. Allmond. Born on October 14,1944, in Nansemond County, Suffolk, VA, Vernice later made her home in Smithfield, VA. After attending Westside High School, she worked various jobs before her life’s direction shifted. At the age of 22, she relocated to New York, where she spent the next 54 years building a life rooted in service, faith, and professional excellence.

While in New York, Vernice attended Business College and went on to build a distinguished 40 year career in the banking industry, serving at New York PrivateBank & Trust and Deutsche Bank. She was also a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church in Corona, NY, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Marvin J. Bentley. There, she served faithfully as President of the October Club, working tirelessly with young adults and teens to help them grow spiritually and reach their goals. Vernice’s love for worship was expressed most beautifully through music. She was a faithful member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, founded by the late Rev. James Cleveland, and traveled across the country ministering through songs. Upon returning to Virginia, she made her home in Suffolk VA. with her daughter, Marquetta (“Kita”), continuing to share her wisdom, humor, and unwavering faith with those around her.

Vernice leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Marquetta D. Anderson of Suffolk, VA, and Alicia C. Gordon of Scotia, NY; her brothers, Zollie E. Allmond (Catherine) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Vincent B. Allmond (Melissa) of Carrollton, VA; her grandchildren, Zachary J. Ethridge and Joshua T. Ethridge of Scotia, NY, and Marquezia N. Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA; her great grandson, Amir K.Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her deeply.

Her legacy of faith, service, and song will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
