Valerie V. Joyner

March 13, 1958 — December 21, 2017

Our loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt, Valerie Virginia Robertson Joyner transitioned to be with Christ on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at her residence in Surry, Virginia with family members at her bedside. Val as she was affectionately called was born on March 13, 1958 to the late Valru Buck Robertson and Mildred Keller Robertson in Isle of Wight, Virginia. She was a graduate of Windsor High School Class of 1977. She successfully completed training at Blue Ridge Job Corp and later trained to become a CNA. She was employed at Riverside Convalescent Nursing Home currently Riverside Health Living until her diagnosis of breast cancer on December 20, 2011. She raised her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. She was a member at Bibleway Mission Church, Smithfield, Virginia. She faithfully endured her illness. Trusting God all the way. She was determined that she would continue to do anything she wanted to do. Val had many hobbies: Seamstress, Tailor, Photographer, Gardener, Artist, and Chef to name a few. She mastered them all. She loved reading the Bible and listening to Gospel music. Psalm 46:10 was one of her favorite scriptures. She loved to care for her gardens and flowers. Her latest project was watching the stages of the growth of two butterflies she found in her flowers to keep them out of the cold weather. Anything dealing with life gave her great joy. She was predeceased by her father, Valru Buck Robertson, brother Earl M. Keller, grandparents; Thomas and Mary Tina Robertson, Henry and Lottie Keller. Her loved ones left to cherish her memories are two sons, Dwayne R. Joyner and wife Aspen, Dewitt N. Joyner and wife Katie; daughter, Latrece N. Joyner and her friend Brandon Clark; the father of her children, Ira Joyner; ten grandchildren, Wesley, Damian, Chloe, Corwin, Breanna, Kaylee, Chyanne, Destiny, Myla and Sean; mother, Mildred K. Robertson; six sisters; Bettye Keller, Deborah Spratley and husband Joseph, Kim Townsend and husband Pastor Darrell, Joan Robertson, Beretta Robertson, and Lisa Joyner; four nephews, Wilton Keller and wife Cynthia, DeAndre' Eddy and wife Denise, Joseph Spratley, III and Demetrius Joyner; two nieces, Shirnet Eddy and Lanese Joyner; three great-nephews, Devyn Keller, DeAndre' and Jae Eddy; four great-nieces, Hevyn Keller, Saniya Eddy, Iyana Artis and Ariel Joyner; two uncles, Henry Keller and wife Ella, and Alexander Keller; two aunts, Virginia Peoples and Carolyn Edwards, and a host of cousins, in-laws and friends.
