The Life of Udessa Hunter Butler Liggins
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” Psalm 116:15
On Wednesday evening, September 11, 2024, the hand of God reached down and touched Udessa Hunter Butler Liggins. He said well done my good and faithful servant. It is time to come home. She was married to the late Lilton Liggins and in this union, they had four children, Kevin, Lilton, Jr., Michael and Keisha.
A native of Isle of Wight County, she was born and raised in Windsor, Virginia on January 10, 1937, to the late Vernon P. (Littleman) and the late Willie Mae Booker Butler. Udessa grew up in a close-knit family and was raised with a strong sense of community and responsibility. She loved her family and had a special bond with her sisters and brother, Vernon, who was a two-year-old toddler whom she raised after the passing of her mother.
Udessa accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was raised in Chapel Grove UCC and Morning Star Baptist Church. It was there that she received Christ as her Savior. She joined and was a member of Morning Star Church. She attended the public schools in Isle of Wight County. She retired from Smithfield Packing Company.
Her true passion was in sharing the love of family and friends and always extending herself with a kind word or deed. Her presence bought a peaceful spirit, and her smile would cause a contagious reaction whenever she entered a room. One of the happiest moments in her life was to see her children graduate and receive their degrees from college.
Udessa leaves to cherish her memory three sons Kevin Liggins (Daphne), Lilton Liggins, Jr. (deceased), Michael Liggins (Angela) and one daughter Keisha Liggins (Stephon Golden, friend); additional sons Michael Lewis (deceased), Terry Lewis and Kenneth Lewis; three grandchildren Derek Liggins, Shonti Liggins and Michael Liggins; five great grandchildren; two sisters Julia Liggins (Eddie Darden, friend) and Veronica Williams; one brother Vernon Butler; aunts Corine Booker and Virginia Booker; special caretaker Louise Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
“Mother and Sister – Together forever, maybe in distance; but never in heart.”
