Tonya Porter Williams

May 2, 1964 — March 22, 2022

On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, God called our beloved, Tonya Porter Williams, home to eternal rest. She was born May 2, 1964 to the late William Porter and Elsie Gray Porter. She is preceded in death by her sister, Veronica P. Murphy. She was a graduate of Windsor High School and employed by Keurig Green Mountain as a laborer before she became ill. She was a loving, caring woman with strong faith in the Lord. Although she had no children of her own, she was like a mother to many, especially her great niece, Ashley Watts, who resided with her. She joined Holly Grove AME Church at an early age, where she attended with her parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins. She loved her church and she loved God. Over the years, Tonya served the church in many capacities. She was a lifetime chair member, missionary, Sunday School Superintendent and Steward-Pro-Temp. She was the technology wiz at Holly Grove and was often relied on by the seniors to keep them connected and able to communicate and participate in meetings. In recent years she became ill; however, her illness did not deter her from the work God had assigned her to do. Sometimes in pain and discomfort herself, she often offered prayer and words of comfort and consultation to others. Often, she pushed beyond her own physical strength and pulled from her spiritual strength and continued to push forward. She leaves to cherish her precious memory; her husband, Alvester Williams, her mother Elsie Porter, Windsor, VA; one sister Lisa P. Hardy (Vernon), Surry, VA; two brothers, William I. Porter(Ella) Windsor, VA, and Gregory D. Porter(Tisha) Windsor, VA; three god children Krystal Parker(Edwin), Nicole Hardy, and Kyleigh Urquhart; a mother[1]in-law, Frances Williams; four brothers-in-law, Tony Williams(Norma), Kalvin Williams(Eunice), Alan Williams, and Gary Lee Williams; two sisters-in-law, Felecia Boone(Kemper) and Melissa Austin(Gary); three aunts, three uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She departed this life with the Lord’s prayer on her lips. She has left Holly Grove with cherished memories of a life well lived. She was truly an angel on Earth and will be missed dearly by everyone. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held 10am Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Holly Grove A.M.E. in Windsor, Virginia. Viewing will take place on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 4-6pm at the chapel. Please keep the Porter-Williams family in your prayers. View Memorial Video
