Thomas Robertson III

Thomas "Dump Robertson, III passed away Sunday February 16, 2020 at home. He was born February 6, 1943 to the late Thomas Robertson, Jr. and Blanche Harris Robertson and was raised in Smithfield, VA. He graduated from the last class of Isle of Wight Training School in 1961 where he excelled in Academics as well as Basketball and Football. After graduation he worked at Luter's Meat Packing Plant. He loved to sing and was a self- taught electric guitarist. Later he became a member of the local band The Rocking Charmers. In his spare time, he enjoyed singing, fishing, bowling ,westerns and sports. Thomas relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he married his lovely wife Shirley Hall on Christmas Eve 1964. His work experience included brief stints at Adelphi Hospital and the US Post Office. Later he became a Port Authority Officer of NY and a Police Officer of New Jersey serving for twenty years and retired in 1992. Thomas "Dump" "TR" returned home to Smithfield, VA in 1992 where he served at Ferguson Grove Baptist Church in Surry, VA. He then joined his wife at Main Street Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Men of Music and past president of the Men's Fellowship Ministry. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Linwood and Eugene "Nicky" Robertson, daughter Avis Hall and son Michael Mitchell. Treasuring his memory are his loving wife Shirley M. Robertson; Children: Veronica (Rev.Jesse) Spencer, Carrollton, VA, Kathy Dixon, Washington, DC, Anita Hall, New York City and Arvada (Keith) Gary, Smithfield, VA, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren Sisters; Edith Diggs (friend Moses) and Gloria Robertson, Smithfield, VA (friend Will Giles) Brothers: George (Elaine) Gloucester, VA Pastor Lawrence (Rosalee) Hampton, VA and Landus (Vicky ) Robertson, Smithfield, VA; brother in law Jerry Diggs and two sisters in law Carol Robertson Windsor, VA and Carol Langhorne Robertson, Van Nuys California. He will be greatly missed by his Aunts, Virginia Peoples, Newport News, VA and Roberta Caroline Edwards, Smithfield, VA and his Uncles John Harris, Smithfield, VA and Augustus Harris (Maybelle) Newport News, VA ; Aunts in law Artis Mae Harris, Smithfield, VA and Mildred Robertson, Windsor, VA and many nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates and friends. "If you miss me from singing down here come on up to bright glory, I'll be singing up there" A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1 pm Saturday February 22, 2020 at Main St. Baptist Church Smithfield, VA. Viewing will take place Friday February 21, 2020 from 4-7 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Williams Mission Center of Main Street Baptist Church. Mr. Robertson is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.

Burial Date February 22, 2020

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1pm Saturday February 22, 2020 at Main St. Baptist Church Smithfield, VA. Viewing will take place Friday February 21, 2020 from 4-7pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mr. Robertson is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
