Terry LaVelle Smith transitioned to her final resting place on February 27, 2021. Terry was born on September 30,1964, to Otis Jerome Smith and Lillie Hill Smith. She was a selfless woman who cared for others with no desire for open recognition but from the goodness of her heart. Terry graduated from Surry High School in 1982 and attended Old Dominion University. She worked as an office legal assistant in several capacities before joining the department of Justice in 1995 where she worked until her passing as a Paralegal-Program Specialist. Predeceased by her father, Otis J. Smith (2012), Terry leaves to mourn her mother, Lillie H. Smith of Surry, Virginia, a goddaughter, Whitney Alexis Smith, Esq. of Fallston, MD.:7 siblings; Michael (LaFreda) Smith of Fallston, MD; Jacqueline (Edwin) Eley of Chesapeake, VA; Carolyn Smith of Baltimore, MD,; Sharon (Patrick) Bullock of Portsmouth, VA; Otis L. Smith of Surry, VA, Diane (Lawrence) Glover of Midlothian, VA and James (Jamesetta) Smith of Portsmouth, VA 18 nieces and nephews, 6 great nieces and nephews and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Terry accepted Christ and lived a life among family, colleagues and friends that showed evidence of her faith in God. While we miss her honest, yet loving advice and support, we accept that God has better plans for her. may she rest eternally with her earthly and heavenly father. A Drive-in Celebration of Life will be held 11am Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Friday, March 5, 2021 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
