Susie M. Gatewood

March 8, 1932 — January 11, 2014

 Susie Moton Gatewood "Miss Susie Mae" as she was affectionally called passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, January 11, 2014 surrounded by her family after a long illness.

She was the widow of the late Ashton Randolph Gatewood, Sr. She was born in Isle of Wight County on March 08, 1932, to Georgia Moton Shivers and the late James "Jimmy" White. She was preceded in death by her son Clifton J. Gatewood. She loved the Lord and was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church.She was employed with the Smithfield Packing Company for 30 years.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Sandra Johnson and Monica Clarke(Kenneth); three sons, David Gatewood(Deborah), Ashton Gatewood Jr.(Shelley) and Michael Gatewood; a dedicated grandson, Anthony(Tony) Gatewood(Kiva) and one daughter-in-law, Shelia Gatewood; her mother Georgia Moton Shivers; six sisters, Alma Greene, Sarah Pierce, Evangeline Judkins, Shirley Bailey, Patrica Spratley, and Margaret Parker; two brothers, Leslie Shivers, Jr. and Wilbert Shivers; sixteen grandchildren; fifty-six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Virginia and her nurses Susan Mason, Bernice Drew and Neolittia "MeMe" Jones.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Little Zion Baptist Church, Smithfield, Va. Viewing will be held from 4-7PM Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at the chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, VA
