Sonjia Ann Moore passed away on July 2, 2019 at her residence in Suffolk, VA at the age of 67. She was born in Nansemond County on March 20, 1952 and resided in Suffolk, Virginia. Sonjia was a faithful and active member of Solomon's Temple Church where she served on many ministries.

She was predeceased by her parents James T. Strong and Viola Strong Ward; a sister, Paris Strong Salih, and her husband Turner "Pete" Moore.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sisters, Phyllis Wiggins (Mike), of Ahoskie, NC, Desiree Strong Brown of Suffolk, Sheena Strong, Washington, D.C., and Jamie Strong of Maryland, seven stepchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and an honorary sister Denise Blackmon Thomas of South Carolina. She also loved her special "fiend" Sarah Hatton and her "BFF" Linda Butler. Sonjia was a 1969 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Suffolk Virginia. She truly loved her family, enjoyed cooking/preparing meals, singing, making others happy/laughing, and spending her free time with others. Sonjia attended Donnelly College and was employed as a preschool teacher at Learning Tree daycare center in Kansas City, KS. She retired from Verizon after 28 years of service as service assistant manager. Sonjia "AKA" Yang was loved by so many and will be greatly missed

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Main Street Baptist Church 517 Main Street Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA. Viewing will take place Friday July 5, from 4-7 PM with a Wake Service from 6-7 PM. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
