Shirley Gray

Shirley Mae Delk Gray’s transition to eternal life was peaceful, surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at her residence in Windsor, VA.

Shirley was born to her parents Iven Lee Delk, Sr., and Beatrice Scott Delk. She attended Southampton County Public Schools.

Her life’s passion was taking care of children and family. The more the merrier. She enjoyed having her family near her at all times while she listened to her favorite TV show announcer Wayne Brady on Let’s Make a Deal. Not only was her family important to her she took on caring for many others from several communities.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Gray, daughter Shirley A. Gray and fourteen siblings.

Shirley is survived by her children Robin Gray, Windsor, VA and Sylvester Gray, Chesapeake, VA; four grandchildren Chantell Gray (Rodney), Suffolk, VA, Bobby Gray, Sr. (Tennille) Newport News, VA, Tommy Gray (Christina) Smithfield, VA, and Damione Gray, Windsor, VA; eleven great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

Shirley’s remaining brothers and sisters that continue to treasure her memory are Odessa Dukes, Bertha Edwards, Mable Hunt, Beverly Hunt, Jackie Hunt, Sr.,  Catherine Holloway, Mary Jones (Rodney), Charles Delk (Francine) all of Smithfield, VA and Julius Delk (Nettie) of Newport News, VA. Her many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends will forever miss her.

Shirley’s care and attention to others has made an unforgettable difference.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Viewing will take place on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 3-6pm at the chapel.  Burial will be private. Please keep the Gray family in your prayers.
