Petty Officer Shericka Nicole Henley

As she endured pain to the end of her life's journey here on earth, on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2015 at 10:14pm, God in his infinite wisdom called home to her reward and eternal rest our beloved, Petty Officer Shericka Nicole Henley, age 31. She was born in Bellview, New Jersey on April 6, 1984 to Ida Rose Shivers Henley and the late Michael Henley. At an early age, she along with her family, joined St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church in Euless, Texas, where she gave her life to Christ and held numerous positions with the Youth Dept. Shericka attended public school in Texas where in 2002 she graduated with honors from North Richland Hill High. Shericka was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where she earned many awards and accomplishments. Shericka served 10 years and 4 days with distinction. The discipline and patriotism she learned while in the Navy, never left her, as family and friends will attest. She was honorably discharged 08/26/2010. Being a wounded warrior herself, some of her favorite things to do was the bike rides with fellow mates (even when she wasn't feeling her best and they picked her up and carried her), enjoying the many other projects they worked together, and reading. In May 2009, two years before Shericka was diagnosed she posted on her Facebook THE ABC's ABOUT ME. The questions asked: What's your greatest fear and how do you want to die? Shericka said she feared dying alone and that she wanted to die peacefully. As our Lord and Savior would have it Shericka was not alone and she was at peace with her illness and death. She passed away at home with her 2 sons (her heart's joys) and her mom there with her. Shericka leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons: Jeremy Goza and Jacoby Roberts; her mother, Ida Rose Shivers Henley, of the home; her grandmother Hazel Henley (Waco, Texas); 2 half-brothers: Marc Henley (Dallas, Texas), and Thomas Henley (Van, Texas); 4 aunts: Vivian Shivers and Catherine Hill (Hampton, VA); Octavia Tynes (David) of Woodbridge, VA and Martha Handley (Waco, Texas); Uncles: Robert Henley (Joanne) of San Antonio, Texas and Tyrone Hill (Smithfield, VA); family friends Diane Humes (Chicago, IL) who was always there for her and Don and Sally Rea who made so many trips from Philadelphia to Virginia to visit her during her illness; dear cousins Sheena Hill, Catlin Tynes, Nathaniel Hill, David Alvin Tynes III and a host of cousins as well as her many friends and mates in the U.S. Navy. Shericka was predeceased by her father, Michael Henley; her maternal grandparents, Mills and Gracie Shivers; her paternal grandfather, Michael Henley and her cousins Sherrie Tynes and Tyrone Hill Jr. Homegoing services will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 12:00 noon at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be in Albert G. Horton Memorial Cemetery Suffolk, VA.

Burial Date October 21, 2015

A celebration of life service will held at 12:00pm Wednesday October 21, 2015 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield Virginia. Public viewing on Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel from 4:00pm - 7:00pm.
