"There's a mansion now empty, just waiting for me, at the end of life's troublesome way. Many friends and dear loved ones will welcome me there, near the door of the mansion someday"

Sarah Lee Spratley, 88, Spratley family matriarch , was called home by her heavenly Father on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Riverside Convalescent Center in Smithfield, VA.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt was born in Smithfield, VA to the late Wiley Boothe and Elizabeth Boothe Alston. She attended the Isle of Wight Schools. She was a faithful member of Main Street Baptist Church,

She married the late James L. "Buddy" Spratley, Sr. She was a dedicated homemaker and worked diligently to care for her children and grandchildren. Many of them speak fondly of her good cooking: jacks, home-made ice cream and hot rolls. She was kind and very compassionate and would make sacrifices for her family and friends. She enjoyed having her family around her.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Lillie S. Johnson and Ida Rose Spratley, and her grandson, Wendell Spratley.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her daughters, Eva S. (James) Davis, Sarah S. Robinson , Sandra Banks and Sheena V. Spratley all of Smithfield, VA; her sons, James Spratley of Spring Valley, NY and Frank (Linda) Spratley of Smithfield, VA. Also treasuring her memory are 23 grandchildren; 62 Great grandchildren; 20 Great-great grandchildren, 3 nieces, Willie O. Picott, and Mary Tyler both of Smithfield, VA and Betty J.
