Sanford Goldston

February 21, 1964 — April 17, 2026

Sanford Dean Goldston, born on February 21, 1964 in Suffolk, Virginia at Obici Hospital, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on April 17, 2026.

Over the years Sanford made his home in both Newport News and Hampton, Virginia where he built lasting relationships and left a meaningful mark on everyone he encountered.

Sanford was a man who truly loved his family. His presence bought energy, laughter and sometimes just the right amount of mischief. Known for his quick wit and playful spirit he had a gift for cracking jokes, getting on people’s nerves and then laughing once he knew he had successfully “ruffled a few feathers.” That was simply his way- and those who knew him best wouldn’t have had it any other way.

A devoted and unapologetic fan of the Pittsburg Steelers, Sanford took great pride in his team. Football Sundays weren’t just games- they were events. He lived for a good rivalry and never missed a chance to trash talk anyone whose loyalty didn’t lie with the Steelers.

Sanford also enjoyed spending his time playing spades and shooting pool-two things he truly loved. Whether at the table or by the pool stick, he brought the same competitive spirit and humor. He especially loved a good game of spades, where his legendary trash talking made the game just as entertaining as the outcome. Win or lose he made sure everyone was laughing.

Beyond his humor and love for the game, Sanford had a heart for helping others. He made himself available to anyone in need and took pride in being someone others could count on. Whether big or small, if he could help he would.

Most importantly, Sanford loved the Lord. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he carried it with him in his own way—through his kindness, his generosity and the love he showed to those around him.

Sanford now joins his beloved parents, Doretha Delk Goldston and Henderson P. Goldston, Sr. in eternal rest.

He leaves to cherish his memory four sisters and two brothers: Alva “Pam” Day, Henderson “Sonny” Goldston, Jr. (LaKetha), Sindella “Bonita” Goldston, Larry “Ghost” Goldston (Dorris), Sonya Golston and Karen Diggs- Parker.

He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who held a very special place in his heart: Curtis warren (Benneka), Lakesha Warren-Reed (Erin), Jennifer Outlaw (Vince) Henderson “Pernell “ Goldston, III, Korterious “KT Goldston, Shanita Goldston, Deja Batten, Shannon Goldston, Toni Golsdton, (Curt), Kendria Golston, Erica Wilkins (Darryl) along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

Sanford leaves behind his stepchildren; Aaron McNair, Brandon Berkley and Christopher Berkley and his former wife and best friend Victoria “Vicki” Berkley.

Sanford’s legacy is one of laughter, love and loyalty and unforgettable personality. He will be remembered for the joy he brought, the bonds he strengthened and the way he made every moment just a little more lively.
