The Life and Legacy Samuel P. Jenkins, Jr.

His Sunrise February 15, 1960-His Sunset June 15, 2025

On June 15, 2025-Father’s Day and the day marking 29 years of marriage-God sent his angels of mercy to Riverside Regional Medical center to gently carry his child, Samuel P. Jenkins, Jr., home. Sam transitioned peacefully from his earthy body to his heavenly reward. Born to the late Samuel P. and Mamie Sykes Jenkins, Samuel was the only son among five children. He spent his formative years in Franklin and Holland, VA, surrounded by the love of his parents and four sisters.

Sam was a lover of life, family and the Dallas Cowboys. A giant is spirit and presence, he was affectionately known by many names; “Percel” or “Unc” to his family, “Sup’ to his childhood friends,” Big Slice’ or “big daddy” to his shipyard coworkers, “Sam” or “Babe” to his wife and “Daddy-O” to their beloved daughter. Regardless of the name you called him, you were likely drawn to his infectious personality, his sense of humor, his generous heart and his thoughtful nature made a lasting impression on all who met him. Through these qualities, Sam built not just friendships, but lifelong bonds that became like family.

Sam’s journey through life took many meaningful paths. He often reminisced fondly about winning dance contest with his sister Lenora and cherished the friendships he formed while attending Forest Glen High School and Paul D. Camp Community College. He also spoke with pride about his service in the US Army/national Guard and the brotherhood and camaraderie he found working as a pipefitter in both Newport News and Norfolk Naval shipyards. Sam’s passions were as varied and vibrant as he was. He loved music, dancing, photography, cars, grilling, cooking, sports- and above all, cheering on his Dallas Cowboys.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sisters Denise Archer, Regina Jenkins and Vanessa Riddick.

He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy; his devoted wife of 29 years, Lenore; their cherished daughter Samore; his sister Lenora Jackson (Daniel);his lifelong friend and brother in spirit Roy Hassell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends whose lives he touched deeply.

All in all, throughout joy and pain, sunshine and rain… Sam’s life was blessed and well lived.

A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad, with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and many good times shared, and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy of joy, pride, and pleasure-a living, lasting memory which our family’s grateful hearts will forever treasure and hold close. -Author Unknown
