Thank you Lord, you heard my cry.Thank you Lord for lifting me high.My work is done and heaven has won!Praise His name, Thy Holy name. Our mother, Sallie Giles Penn, 78, transcended into her Heavenly Father's loving arms on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Sallie Virginia was born in Nansemond County, VA on March 12, 1936.She was the daughter of the late James and Gennie Giles.She received Christ at an early age at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Franklin, Va.She graduated from Isle of Wight Training School and worked continuously until she found her true passion in the healthcare field as a Nursing Assistant at Riverside Convalescent Center where she retired after 12 years of dedicated service and then she continued to work in private duty until her health would not allow her to do so. Sallie devoted her later years to loving and caring for her late husband of 46 years, Thomas Penn, Jr. She was a devoted member of Main Street Baptist Church serving on the Ushers' Ministry, Missions Ministry, Women's Fellowship, Parrish Nurse Ministry and Church School. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Darden, Lovett Darden, and James Giles, Jr.She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Sheldon Ray Penn of Hampton; three daughters, Karen P. Wellons (Steve) of Smithfield, Thomasene P. Gay of Prince George and Rita P. Crawford (Anthony) of Hopewell; eight grandchildren, Kristen, LaToya, Steve, Jr., Tommy, II; Taurean, Anthony, Tyrell, and Carmello; one brother, George Giles of Franklin, three sisters-in-law, Lillian Little (Portsmouth), Sweetie Darden (Franklin) and Ida Giles (Baltimore); two special nephews, Alvin Darden (Janet) of Hampton and Gregory Giles of Fort Washington and a loving and supportive circle ofnieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. "Miss Sallie" as she was affectionately known, was proud to be an 18 year cancer survivor and celebrated each anniversary date in her own unique way. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Main Street Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA at 11:00 am.Viewing Monday From 4:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. at the funeral chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield.

Burial Date April 29, 2014

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Main Street Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA at 11:00 am. Viewing Monday From 4:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. at the funeral chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
