Ruth A. Jones

Mrs. Ruth Ann Jones (Cutler) was born on June 16, 1936 in South Hampton County, Virginia to the late Joe Vinson and Katie Cutler. While reared by her grandparents (Ruben and Jodie Cutler) Mrs. Jones attended Westside Public School before entering the workforce. At the age of 16, Mrs. Jones worked as a Housekeeper before becoming employed by Luter's and Gwaltney Meat Packing Plants in Smithfield, Virginia After retiring from the meat packing plant in 1998, her gentle and compassionate spirit lead her to work as a caregiver at an Assistant Living Facility.

Mrs. Jones gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of First Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Rushmere, Virginia. Her wing spirit for others was acknowledged by her church family when she was honored for her love, sacrifice, and service to her community. Aside from her caring spirit, she had a wonderful sense of humor was best known for her cooking, especially her homemade yeast rolls.

Mrs. Jones was loved by her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was always supportive and never missed an opportunity to encourage and pray for loved ones. Her favorite time of year was the Christmas Holiday because she enjoyed spending time with family; all the while making sure everyone else was having a good time.

Mrs. Ruth Jones peacefully departed this life on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in her home while surrounded by her family.

She was preceded death by her husband: Alvin D. Jones, Jr., parents: (mentioned above), two sisters: Wyommie Baskerville and  Carolyn Harris; three brothers: Dennis (Chick) Lowery, James (Pete) Perry and George (June) Newsome.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons: Calvin Jones (Debbie), Rev Dr. James Jones (Lynette), Gregory Jones (Brenda) and Rocshell Jones; three daughters: Deborah Jones, Jerine Williams (Sylvester); two brothers Lonzo (Doobie) Lowery and Phillip (Jap) Lowery; one sister Shirley Butler, 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

A Drive-in Celebration of Life will be held 1pm Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Jones is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Jones family in your thoughts and prayers.
