                                                                       Russell B. Wynn

                                                  February 10, 1941- January 25, 2024

OUR  DEVOTED SERVANT, GENUINE FRIEND & GENTLE SPIRIT

“And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondary prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues” 1 Corinthians 12:28.

Russell Wynn entered into eternal rest on January 25, 2024. He was born on February 10, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia to Vernetta Wynn.

Her held several jobs during the course of his maturing to manhood, but his career was working for International Longshoreman Association. He began working thee in 1969 and within 3 or 4 months he was in an accident on the job resulting in his legs being crushed. Rusell was hospitalized for six months and doctors feared he would ever walk again. Not only did Russell walk again, but he went back to work for ILA for an additional 26 years.

Russell was united in marriage to Denise Shears on January 16, 1995, renewed their vows on March 11, 1995 and on February 12, 2012. They were convinced that “three’s a charm. They initially made Suffolk their home, but he would travel with Denise to Main Street Baptist Church. After formerly transferring his membership from Union Bethel Baptist Church to MSBC, he joined the usher ministry.

Because of Russell’s gift of helps and his servant’s heart, he was a good usher, taking his lead from Mrs. Virginia Walker. They often stood at the main sanctuary door together, and you could see Mrs. Walker telling Russell something, then smacking his hand.

Until his health failed you could count on Russell being “in service, at service” anytime  a need arose because he thoroughly enjoyed serving. Until circumstances prevented the same, Russell enjoyed fellowship with family especially Charles King the late James ‘Pip’ Godwin, Melvin Raines, Warner and Nolie Bailey (The Bailey Boys), clint Mason and Johnnie Porter.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents Charles Alexander Hargraves and Vernetta Wynn Hargraves and sister Vernetta Elizabeth Hargraves Nichols.

Russell leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 29 years, Denise, his children James King, Sharon King Phox, Tammy King, Rosalind Grimes (Darryl) and Delvon Hunt; a special god-granddaughter Angela Carrington, his bother Nathaniel Hargraves (Charlene) and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

We are indeed saddened by the transition of Russell, but we are grateful to God for the amount of time He allowed Russell to be with us.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10am on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Main Street Baptist Church.  Viewing will take place on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 3-6pm at the Chapel.  Please keep the Wynn family in your prayers.
