A MEMOIR OF LOVE

Ruby Cutler Dixon

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name, And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready, in heaven far above,  And that I'd have to leave behind, all those I dearly love.

And so, in God's appointed time and will...He summoned our beloved Ruby Cutler Dixon home to eternal rest on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. She began her earthly journey on November 28, 1943, as the daughter of Emma L. Cutler, who has predeceased her. Ruby's brother, Thomas Cutler, also predeceased her.

Ruby received her formal education in the segregated school system of Isle of Wight County Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1964. An industrious and efficient laborer and able provider for her family, she was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding as an administrative secretary for more than 20 years. After being laid off from that organization, she transitioned her employment endeavors by reskilling to become a product production specialist at Canon Solutions America, working in the Canon Factory Service Center in Newport News, Virginia. There she endured and was blessed to retire after her appropriate time of service was achieved.

A member of Main Street Baptist Church in Smithfield, she was faithful in her devotion to God through her worship, fellowship in assembly, and stewardship responsibilities and undertakings. As a native of Smithfield and resident of 3 Dusk Court-in Hampton, Virginia, over the years she amassed a multitude of friends and acquaintances. Several have expressed through published memorial tributes their love and devotion in her passing. She will be remembered as a nurturing, caring and encouraging staple of our family and friend to many in her immediate and extended communities of influence and affiliation. Many will recall her classy and "fashionista" style, in which family generations —young and old—have emulated and upheld her standard through the years.

Remembering her love as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend are her son, Terrance Shears, of Hampton, Virginia; her daughter, Ramona Brower, and husband, Walter Jr., of Hampton; her sister, Betty Tucker, of Smithfield; grandchildren: Marcus Palmer of Alexandria, Virginia; Empris Palmer, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Nikita Shears of Las Vegas, Nevada; four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Danny Porter.

So when I walked through Heaven's gates, I felt so much at home, For God looked down, smiled at me, and told me Welcome Home. So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, For every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart.
