Rosetta Booker Butler

April 1, 1928 — August 27, 2021

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:3 For every memory that is shared here today, there are hundreds that will come back every time we think of her, Rosetta Booker Butler. Rosetta was born ninety-three years ago on April 1, 1928, to the late Henry and Henrietta JonesBooker in Southampton County. She was the 6th of 12 siblings to be born in the family and was preceded in death by her 11 siblings. She was given the nickname "Shprty" by her family in her early youth years which remained until her death. Rosetta departed this life early Friday morning, August 27, 2021 at Sentara Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, VA. God's death angel was dispatched there with her wings and she joined the angels to go to her heavenly father. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Butler, Sr, her daughter, Louvenia Butler Ellsworth, brothers Doc Booker, Henry Booker, Arthur Jerome Booker, Arthur Javan Booker, Osceola Booker, Sr., Lorenzo Booker, Matthew Booker; sisters, Georgia Wilson, Willie Mae Butler, Beatrice Hooper, and Clarissa Steele. Around the time she was about nineteen years old, she fell in love with Roger Butler, Sr. and they were joined in Holy Matrimony as husband and wife, To this union three children were born; daughter, Ivy Lee, son, Roger, Jr. and daughter, Louvenia. God also placed in her care a special daughter, Corine. During her span of life experiences and teachings, she realized early that she needed to be in the safe keeping of God, so at an early age, she joined and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church, Windsor, VA. She was supportive in attendance and her giving. As a member of Shiloh, she served as a Deaconess and Usher. She worked many years as a CAN and retired from Hill Crest Nursing Home in Suffolk, VA. She was known to help take care of sick members in the family and in the community. "Shorty)', "Big Mama", and "Aunt Shorty" are all the names she was fondly called by her family and friends. Her home was a loving haven for her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Her meals were always delicious and nothing could beat her Sunday dinner of roast beef with onions, white potatoes and carrots along with steamed cabbage, fried chicken and chocolate cake. Lastly, and most of all, she leaves to cherish her memories a precious family, love ones and friends; Daughters, Ivy Lee Melton (Vernon) and Corine Booker; Son, Roger Butler, Jr. (Laniece); Grandchildren, William Melton, Jr. (Annette), DeShaun Melton, Jeremy King (Coretta), Tobias King(Brittany), Melanie Melton, Jamar Scott, Lynn Kiegler, Tiawana Bell, Stephanie Butler, Teresa Copeland; Great Grandchildren Quita Love, Quinton Melton, Jaicent Walker, Mario Melton, Christopher Walker, Crystal Harris, Jamil Walker, Jeremiah Kinh, Journey King, Jeremy King, Tobias King, Tyler King, Four great great grandchildren; two Sisters-in-law, Lillian Whitehurst and Virginia Booker; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
