Ronald L. Mavin, Sr.

Ronald L. Mavin, Sr. transitioned from this life on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at his residence.

Ronald Linwood Mavin, Sr. was born November 26, 1948 in Nottaway, Virginia to Clementine E. Mavin. Ronald grew up in the town of Blackstone until thirteen and then he moved to Surry, Virginia where he lived with his uncle Wallace and his wife Patricia Ann Mavin.

Ronald joined the US Air Force and after an honorable discharge he was employed at Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Company, in the Nuclear Machinery Installation Department.

On February 25, 1969, Ronald married Clarice Delk. During their marriage they had two children Ronice M. Mavin of Tampa, Florida and Ronald L. Mavin, Jr. of Smithfield, Virginia.

After leaving the Shipyard in 1979, he worked for a short period of time in Smithfield at Turners Auto and from there he went to work for VEPCO at the Surry Nuclear Power Station in 1980. While there he made many lasting relationships. He retired from there after thirty years of service in 2010.

Ronald became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1979. Ronald had been a faithful servant of Jehovah and was looking forward to the resurrection free of sickness and pain.

Ronald leaves behind his wife of fifty-six years Clarice Mavin, daughter Ronice Mavin, son Ronald Mavin, Jr., seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Ronald was known by them all as “Big Daddy.” He greatly loved them all as his own.

He will surely be missed by all his family and friends.

On Friday, November 7, 2025, viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. At 1:30pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025, a Celebration of Life Service will also be held at the Chapel.  Interment will follow the service at Mt Nebo Cemetery, Surry, VA.
