Roger A Morton

December 14, 1938 — November 14, 2016

On November 14, 2016, God saw fit to open the gates of Heaven to allow our beloved Roger to ride on in. His siblings Ruby, Elaine, Carolyn, and Randall met him with open arms to greet him while his oldest boy Marvin was standing in the balance planning their next fishing trip, however, they had to wait in line because he had to get a hug from his mothers Florette and Alice along with his Papa Robert. If you were to look up the words, dedicated, hard working, perseverance, courage and strength, you would find Roger. He was an avid farmer, fisherman, landscaper, and servant for God. Roger served as a faithful Usher and Church Sexton for Cypress Baptist Church for many years and he took great pride in ensuring that the church was spic and span and that you were greeted with a smile. Roger enjoyed worshiping the Lord wherever he went often getting his praise on with a shout, a clap, or a two-step in the aisle. Roger was a pillar of the community and will surely be missed. If you ever traveled on Route 10 or 31, you would see Roger enjoying another favorite past time, riding his Moped. Many times a basket, weed eater, garden hoe, and other tools may have accompanied it as he was determined to get the job done come rain, sleet or snow. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. Nothing meant more to him than enjoying a talk with his buddies Edward, Wardell (deceased) and Brother-in-Law Wilbert (deceased) at the local mart in town. They would sit for hours and discuss gardening, fishing and the good ole times. But there was one special friend that Roger searched for and when he laid his eyes on his Brother/Cousin Junior he could not be happier. So many nieces, nephews, members of the community, and friends loved Roger. His adopted niece and nephews Vicki, Lawrence and Chris loved him immensely. Devoted nieces Sheila, Charlotte, Florine, and Pamela were by his side during his final days always putting a smile on his face. Roger dedicated 57 years of marriage to his wonderful wife Barbara of the home and from their union eight children where born. Continuing his legacy would be Francine (Jimmie who shared the same Birthday as him), Jeanette, Tommy, and Bobby. Their combined unions blessed him with twelve loving grandchildren, Shevonne, Travis (deceased), Dameon, Jasmine, (Ray Jr.), Damarias, Travius, Marvin (deceased), Scharnelle, Matthew, Barbara, Amber and Chelsea (deceased). He loved his 25 great grands and his one great grand baby. He would often pinch their cheeks so hard that they almost became permanent birthmarks. His siblings Earnestine, Ann, Robert, Stanley, and Emmitt will miss their dear brother but they are rejoicing in the victory because they know they will see him again. Roger fought a good fight and he was rewarded with his wings. All will miss him but God knows best and needed another soldier for His Army and what better soldier than he.
