Robertha Carolyn Robertson Edwards, 90, was born February 9, 1930 the late Thomas Roberts Sr. and Mary Tina Johnson Robertson, and departed this life on Saturday, March 21, 2020 surrounded by her family. In 1949 Robertha graduated from Isle of Wight Training School, Smithfield, Virginia. After 42 years of service she retired from the Smithfield Packing Company in 1993. Robertha was a member of First Gravel Hill Baptist Church for over 62 years where she served on the missionary committee, senior ministry, senior choir and a family and friends day coordinator. A true lover of Sunday school she attended regularly.During the summer programs at First Gravel Hill she volunteered her services in the kitchen cooking.She also cooked for the after school program. Robertha was a caregiver for many people in the Smithfield and Rushmere Community to include caregiving for children in the community. She was also a member of The United Order of Tents Lilac 212. Robertha was a lover of all people but had a friend that she admired and adored, the late Mrs Helen Wilson Torian. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Thomas Robertson Jr., Valu Buck Robertson, and Aletha Robertson; Sisters Sarah Robertson Harris, Mary Jane Robertson Harris, Ida Robertson Mack, Masurai Robertson Griffin and Doshia Robertson Wells. Her survivors include her four daughters: Brenda A. Edwards Dorsey (Douglas); Vergena S. Edwards Harper (Jerome); Karen A. Edwards Bowden (Larrine) and Johnette D. Edwards. Grandsons- Ryan O. Edwards (Melinda) and Jerome Harper II (Calena); Great Grandchildren- Nancy Riddick Tyson and Zenobia Harper Tabron (Chris), Thomas J.Harper, Mars J. Harper, and Bryan Edwards; Great Great grandchild- Malia Edwards; a sister Virginia Robertson Peoples and a host of nieces and nephews. The scripture that says Love thy neighbor as thyself describes who Robertha was. An obedient woman of God who opened her home to many neighbors, family and friends. Cooking was one of her loves and she feed all that came into her home. Her fruits of the spirit kindness, meekness, patience and most of all her love touched many heats in the community. A loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend who will be missed dearly. A Graveside Service will be held 12pm Saturday March 28, 2020 at First Gravel Hill Baptist Church.
