Richarne Turner

March 9, 1987 — June 26, 2021

On Saturday, June 26, Richarne Tiawan Turner transitioned to his eternal home. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, friend and partner. As a child, Richarne adopted several nicknames. He would constantly run into things, bruise himself, and not shed a tear. He would get up and continue to run so his dad nicknamed him “Bruiser” but the one most embraced was “Shorty” given to him by his predeceased Aunt Joann Johnson; they loved each other dearly. Shorty was born on March 9, 1987 to Richard and Carla Turner, Jr. where he was raised in the Turner Family home in Zuni, VA. At a young At a young age he attended Zion Southampton AME Zion Church in Courtland, VA with his paternal grandmother Alice. He played football for the Ivor Little league (Ivor Warriors) during his elementary years and defense for Southampton Junior varsity football team. He received his education from Southampton County Public Schools. The youngest of two, Shorty took on the characteristics of his mother and father. You could find him quietly observing things yet he would frequently step-in with jokes and phrases that would keep his friends and family in laughter. Shorty was a devoted father, brother and friend. He was definitely a “mama’s boy” and his “brother’s keeper”. He loved bragging on his mom’s cooking. He, his father, brother not only shared an unbreakable bond for each other but a love for boxing. Shorty was very quick on his feet with an even quicker left hook. Shorty loved and enjoyed watching race cars to riding dirt bikes. If not with his kids or brother, it was with his cousins or close friends. He had a special way of identifying them in a jokingly way; his cousin and “boo” Da’Shawn “Nu-Nu” Turner; cousin and “oldest son” Anthony “Nutty” Artis, Jr; and his “road dawgs” Robert “Rabbitt” Diggs, Danielle Taylor and Tyrone Gay. Shorty will be forever lovingly remembered. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Turner Sr.; grandmother, Mary Alice Turner, and cousin, Brandon Turner. He leaves to cherish his memory: parents, Richard and Carla Turner, Jr.; brother, Tyron Turner; daughter, Tynasia Hill; son, Tychaun Turner; grandmother, Mary Hilliard; grandfather, Curtis Pope; devoted partner of 16 years and mother of his kids, Latoya Hill; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
