Rhondea Cowling Williams

June 19, 1953 — January 23, 2023

Rhondea Mercedas Cowling-Williams (Rhoni), the baby child of the late Anthony T. Cowling and Ella Lousie Ensley was born June 19, 1953, in Baltimore, MD.  She entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 23, 2023. Rhoni was six years old when her mother passed and she came to live with her grandmother Ma Missie Cowling in Chuckatuck, VA.

Rhoni accepted Christ at an early age at Little Bethel Baptist Church. She remained strong in her faith, studied her bible, and knew the word of God. She was educated in the public schools of Nansemond County, VA, and finished her junior and senior high school years in Baltimore, MD. On a scholarship, Rhoni received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Human Ecology at Howard University in May 1975. Rhoni was full of life, liked to dress very fashionably, and loved to dance, read, and talk. Rhoni never met a stranger and loved family. During her early career, Rhoni worked at Advanced Systems Development in the National Capital Region as a government contractor. She started with the company when it was in Silver Spring MD. She also relocated to Ahirlington VA with the company. Everyone in the company was like family, and they had the best time working and hanging out together all the time. Rhoni lived and worked many years in New York City and New Jersey.

She relocated back to Chuckatuck VA in her later years. Rhoni loved meeting people and setting up vending at the local events/flea markets selling jewelry, black arts, gift baskets, etc. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Livingston T. Cowling and Darnell L. Cowling, Jr. and two nephews, Anthony Cowling, and Darnell Cowling, Jr. She leaves to CELEBRATE her homegoing three nieces, Kimberley Cowling-Jordan, Springfield VA, Nicole Cowling,Chanel Cowling; two nephews, Thad Cowling (Shondra) and Todd Cowling (Delia); all of Baltimore MD, two god Sons Jamal Booker and Rashard Booker and a Special Cousin Antonie Preston, all of Joppa MD. Two very special friends Skyline Poteat, of Montclair, NJ.  Skyline was Rhoni's confidant and they talked often. Nathan Shelton, of Beckley, WV helped Rhoni relocate to Virginia, and they remained lifetime friends. Rhoni had a host of other loving cousins, relatives, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held 12pm Friday, Feb. 03, 2023 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Elder Wayne Hatton will give the eulogy. Please keep the Cowling-Williams Family in your prayers.
