Rev. Prophet Spincil Lee Goodwin

August 29, 1931 — October 10, 2016

On Monday, October 10, 2016 God saw fit to call home one of His angels. Reverend Prophet Spincil L. Goodwin was born to the late Pearl and Dean Goodwin of Smithfield, VA. Reverend Prophet Goodwin was the founding pastor of Prayer Mission Baptist Church in Smithfield, VA for 34 years. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years as a crane operator. He married the late Catherine E. Newsome Goodwin of Suffolk, VA and to this union was born seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife; three sisters: Irene Jones, Virginia Jones and Queen Arline; four brothers: George Dean, Curtis, Edward and Andrew Goodwin. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Reverend Katherine Newsome-Pope (Ray) of Franklin, VA; Nancy Hayes of Smithfield, VA and Darlene Scott (George) of Smithfield, VA; four sons, Andrew Newsome of Smithfield, VA; Spencer Newsome of Suffolk, VA; Gilbert Newsome (Charlotte) of Smithfield, VA; Tracy Newsome (La Bonnie) of Hampton, VA, and eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves three sisters Darlene Spratley (Charlie), Mary Jean Scott and Margaret Goodwin all of Smithfield, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends. A Homegoing Celebration will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Mount Lebanon C.O.G.I.CSuffolk, VA officiated by Elder Larry Gray and Rev. Katherine Newsome-Pope. Interment will be in the Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Windsor, VA. Public Viewing will be held at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, VA on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 4-7 p.m.

Burial Date October 15, 2016

A Homegoing Celebration will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Mount Lebanon C.O.G.I.C Suffolk, VA officiated by Elder Larry Gray and Rev. Katherine Newsome-Pope. Interment will be in the Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Windsor, VA. Public Viewing will be held at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, VA on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 4-7 p.m.
