The Journey On March 5, 1947 the Rushmere community was blessed with the birth of Ray Novel Wilson. Raised in a loving Christian home, he was preceded in death by his parents the late Novel Wilson, Jr. and Harriett Evans Wilson. Ray attended Westside High School and graduated in 1965. Having a love for drafting and design he began his career as a design engineer. His career offered him the ability to travel and see the world. He joined First Gravel Hill Baptist Church at an early age. He was a current and faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Norfolk Naval Yard after 38 years of service on November 6, 2015, so we thought. Ray decided he couldn’t sit still and returned to work soon after. He officially and finally retired with 40 years of federal government service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and another 12 years designing US NAVY’s carrier fleet at Newport News Shipbuilding. If you knew Ray, you knew you had a friend for life. He never met a stranger and would do anything to provide guidance and support to you and your family. In addition to his love of drafting and design he loved fishing, and playing Phase 10. He also served 25 years at the Rushmere Voluntary Fire Department. God called his servant Ray home on September 3, 2022. His memories in life will be honored by his devoted and loving wife, Hilda Elaine Wilson. His children, Tiffany Wilson Robertson and Timothy Ray Wilson, Sr. (Carrie). His grandchildren, Makayla Wilson, Shane Robertson, Ariana Wilson, Caden Robertson and Timothy Wilson, Jr. His god-daughter, Ginger Blount-Moore (James). His siblings, Lynn Iris Davis, Theresa Kea (James) and Tywan Wilson. His brothers-in-law, Oscar Thompson (Geraldine) and Donald Thompson (Catherine). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He loved his family and friends and served the church with passion. He taught Sunday School from 1993 - 2018. He mentored many at work, in biblical studies and in life. He left an indelible impact on all he encountered. He would look for any reason to discuss God’s love and salvation. Ray’s mission was simple… Listen to Learn the Word, Learn to Love the Word, Love to Live the Word. Mission complete! A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at First Gravel Hill Baptist Church. Viewing will take place on Friday, September 09, 2022 from 3-6pm at the Chapel.
