Pastor Wilbur Davis, Jr., was born on January 30, 1964 in Southampton County, Virginia to the late Will and Alice L. Davis. He entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at VCU Critical Care Hospital, Richmond, VA with his family surrounding him.
Pastor Davis attended and graduated from Southampton Public Schools in 1982. Upon graduation Pastor Davis found employment with Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia and was preparing to retire in December of this year after 43 years of service.
Pastor Davis was called to pastor Holy Ground Temple of Deliverance Church in October of 2005 and he has been on fire for the Lord ever since. Pastor received a degree in Biblical Study from the Mt. Lebanon School of Ministry in the Year 2000. He was ordained to preach the gospel in Year 2006 under the watchful care and guidance of Pastor Dwight Riddick of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Newport News, Virginia. This year, he would have celebrated his 20th Year Pastor Anniversary at Holy Ground.
Pastor Davis has served the Lord faithfully during the past twenty years and beyond. He ministered both in and out of season to his congregants, the many shipyard coworkers and the many young people that found their way into his life by way of his daughters, to his family and to anyone who needed a Word from God. It was his purpose in this life to share God’s Word and guide souls to Christ. He dedicated his life to serving God.
In his leisure time, he loved working on vehicles, especially during his younger years. What came factory built became something new once he had finished changing engines, pulling out seats and adding speakers. He also enjoyed fishing, carpentry projects and spending time with family. Whatever he put his hands to, it had to be done to near perfection.
Pastor Davis leaves behind to cherish in his memory his devoted wife of 25 years, Minister Jennifer Davis, two daughters; Crystal Simone Davis and Raven Alicia Davis both of Newport News, VA; stepdaughter, LaToya Gunn of Newport News, VA; his siblings, Alesia Parson (Gregory) of Elberon, VA; Amy Davis of Portsmouth, VA; a nephew, Gregory Parson, Jr., of Richmond, VA; an uncle, John Scott (Virginia) of Ivor, VA; an aunt, Mrs. Caroline Greene of Syracuse, NY; a very special cousin, Mrs. Josephine Spratley of Ivor, VA and a host of cousins and friends.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
