Smithfield Norman Sylvester Newby, 78, passed away July 19, 2015. He was born May 16, 1937 to the late Lloyd and Violet Newby. Norman was a Native of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of Cypress Baptist Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He retired from Smithfield Packing Plant after 45 years. He was a loyal member to the community, always willing to help a friend in need. He enjoyed working in his garden and tending to the animals on his farm. Along with his parents he was also preceded in by two siblings Wardell Newby (Verlette), Raleigh Lee Newby. He leaves to cherish his memory a companion for 36 years Geraldine Parker; his children, Norman "Kenny" Parker, Brad Parker, Roberto Parker; five siblings, Emma Dancy (Howard) Detroit, Michigan, Novella Evans (James) Surry County, Va., Marie Newby Detroit, Michigan, Oscar Newby (Eleanor) Elberon, Va., James Newby (Martha) Phoenix, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Newby (Robert) Surry County, Va., Ester Newby (Raleigh), Pearisburg, Va; five grandchildren, Brae Parker, Blaze Parker, Jenesis Parker, Solomon Felps, Ari Moore and a host of other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held 12pm Friday, July 24, 2015 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing 4:00pm - 7:00pm Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the church. Interment will be held in the Tynes Memorial Cemetery.
