Nelson H. Turner

Nelson Henry (Dink) Turner, 66 years of age, was born February 11, 1952 to the late Willie and Ida Mae Turner. He departed this life and entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at his residence, Chuckatuck, VA. Nelson was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Turner. Nelson attended Nansemond County Public Schools in Suffolk, VA. Nelson was a dedicated employee at Huntington Ingalls Industries (NNS) of Newport News, VA in the Riggers Department. He retired and received a 41 Year Service Award. Nelson loved sports, especially, baseball. During his leisure time, Nelson was known for his cooking, coaching and managing both the Giants Baseball Team and the Trotteretts Women's Softball Team of Chuckatuck, VA. Nelson was a faithful Pittsburgh Steeler's football fan. Nelson leaves behind to cherish his memories, a devoted and loving wife, Mattie L. Turner; two sons, Tydus Jefferson (April), Fredericksburg, VA and Terry Sherrod, Wakefield, VA.; one daughter, Lesa Williams, Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Ida Golden, Jacksonville, FL and Connie Everett, Suffolk, VA; five brothers, Charles Turner, Willie Turner, Sr. (Florence), Larry Turner, Gene Turner and Melvin Turner, Sr. all of Suffolk, VA; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wiggins, Richmond, VA, Thelma Barksdale (Samuel), New Jersey, Nicole Hall, Suffolk, VA.; brothers-in-law, Eddie Lawrence (Joy), New Jersey, Howard Williams and Tony Williams, Richmond, VA; 6 Grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield, Va. Viewing will take place Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Professional services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
