Nadine J. Lowe

June 17, 1944 — January 7, 2024

Smithfield

Nadine gained her angel wings on January 7, 2024. Nadine was born on June 17, 1944, to Lillie “Elizabeth” Sapp Bryant and Benjamin Harris in Jacksonville, Florida. At the age of 4, she moved to Brooklyn, New York with her older brother Walter. As a youth, while on summer vacation in Jacksonville, she accepted Christ at Little Rock Baptist Church. In New York, she attended P.S. 132 for kindergarten and 1st grade. She attended elementary and middle schools in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

She graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Later in life, Nadine continued her education at Massachusetts Bay Community College, receiving an Associate’s Degree in Medical Health Information. A lifelong learner, she continued on to receive certifications in Massachusetts and Virginia from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Nadine possessed a diligent work ethic. She retired from the Polaroid Corporation and Harvard Medical Center after 19 years of employment.

After relocating to Virginia, she later retired from the Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center after 18 years of employment. Throughout her life, Nadine espoused service to God and Country. In her days as a young military spouse, she lived in Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Devens, Massachusetts; and Fort Eustis, Virginia. During each stay, she worked faithfully with the military families. Nadine was a lifetime member of the American Legion William E. Carter Women’s Auxiliary Unit #16, Department of Massachusetts, District #7. While there she held several officer positions including President, Senior Vice, Junior Vice and Unit Secretary. She also served on numerous committees. Nadine was truly a devoted member serving on behalf of our Veterans and their families.

Nadine’s lifelong dedication to service continued as she was an Officer of Election for the Isle of Wight County, Virginia for numerous years. She was an active member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., Stafford County Chapter. She was also a member of the Les Femmes Social Club in Hampton, Virginia. Loving and celebrating her 14 grandchildren became her life fulfillment during her retirement years. Nadine loved Gospel music and her all-time favorite R&B group was the O’Jays. To many, she appeared quiet but once she became endeared to you, she showered you with encouragement, hope and love. She was a natural born caretaker.

Nadine was preceded in death by husband Willie H. Lowe; mother Lillie “Elizabeth” Sapp Bryant; father Benjamin Harris; her brothers Raymond Bryant, Walter Williams and James Shelton; and her sister Lillie May Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Nadine Jackson Beach of Stafford, Virginia, Michelle Jackson (Leroy) Vargas of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Sheryl Jackson (Eric) Stanton of Bridge City, Louisiana, and one son Jermaine Jackson of Smithfield, Virginia; grandchildren Anthony Beach, Nicholas Beach, Dontay Burrell, Christian Beach, Justice Jackson, Aaron Watts, Da’Quan Caffey, Joshua Vargas, Samuel Watts, Jaxon Vargas, Benjamin Fentress, Kani Jackson, Dallas Jackson, and Kamiyah Wells; her Aunt Ada McDaniels, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

“My children, I love each one, as she would say repeatedly, ‘We got it,’ I hold you to it. To my grandchildren, Grandma loves you and I expect you to exceed to the highest. Keep looking up and stay together; love you.” - Grandma “Family, please celebrate with me. My work here is done; I received an offer and a call that I cannot refuse for an appointment from which I will not return. I am heading to a new mission to a wonderful place.”
