Mozell Brown

Mozell Ricks Brown, transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on the morning of April 22, 2021 at VCU Medical Center (Richmond, VA). Mozell was born to the late James H. & Nannie O. Ricks on April 13, 1939 in Nansemond County, Virginia.

In her early years, Mozell was employed by Smithfield Packing and then took her culinary talents to Smithfield Inn. Mozell was a dedicated employee of the Smithfield Inn for over 50 years, where her ham rolls were legendary. Mozell was featured in several news and food publications, as her yeast and sweet potato ham rolls were a must try when in the area.

Christ and church were vital to Mozell’s life and she was a lifelong member of Christian Home Baptist Church. At Christian Home, Mozell faithfully served on the Usher Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Missions Ministry, Golden Age Ministry and regularly attended Sunday School. Mozell was also instrumental in the annual church cookout.

Mozell was predeceased by her parents and her brother, James T Ricks. She leaves sons, Kenneth V. Clarke (Monica), James L. Brown, Jr., Andy L. Brown, and Lloyd Hardin; brothers, Larnell Ricks (Catherine), George Ricks and Floyd Ricks; 8 grandchildren, 10 great‐grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends to cherish her memory.

A Graveside Celebration will be held 12pm Monday, April 26, 2021 at Christian Home Baptist Church. Viewing will take place Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 2-4pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Brown is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Brown family in your thoughts and prayers.
