Mildred Parker Collins

October 14, 1946 — May 7, 2021

“A heart of gold stopped beating, two shining eyes at rest, God broke out heart to prove He only takes the best.”. On Friday, May 7, 2021. God called from this world of sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest, our Sweet Jean, a beloved wife mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Mildred “Jean” Collins was born October 14, 1946 in Sussex County to the late James Benjamin Parker, Sr. and the late Maude Evelyn Mason Parke. At a young age she settled in Suffolk, VA after marrying her first love Otis J. Collins, Sr. She retired from New Hampton, Inc. after 20 years of service. She was a faithful member of New First Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill for more than thirty years. Sweet Jean served on a variety of ministries including the Usher Board, Pastor’s Aide and the Mass Choir. She delighted herself in the Word of God by attending Bible Study regularly. Jean valued spending time with her family; her granddaughters were her heart. In her free time, she enjoyed planting flowers, shopping, watching sports of all kinds, but her favorite was surely basketball. Jean was predeceased by her sisters, Jacqueline Mason Parker and Cynthia Ann Parker Woodberry, and her brother Jessie James Parker. Jean is survived by her husband of 54 years, Otis J. Collins, Sr.; her two children; Otis James Collins, Jr. (Portsmouth, VA) and Donna Marie Collins (Richmond, VA) her three grandchildren; Ja’Quella Bagley (Portsmouth, VA), Kirsten Danielle Goodman (Los Angeles, CA) and Kourtney Alexandria Goodman (Los Angeles, CA) siblings; Daisy Ruffin (Port St Lucie, FL) Willie Mae Ruffin (Charlie, Smithfield, VA) Annie Parker -Porter (Smithfield, VA), Inell Sanders (James, Middletown CT), Mary T. Parker (Middletown CT), Josephine Pittman(Jerry, Smithfield, VA), Debra Milosh (Min. Richard, Middletown, CT) and James Benjamin, Jr., (Donna, Raleigh, NC) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a circle of friends. A PRIVATE Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Friday, May 14, 2021 at New First Baptist Church 1105 Hosier Rd, Suffolk, Va for the IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY. Mrs. Collins is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Collins Family in your thoughts and prayers.
