Michael O. Robinson “Mr. Mike” entered eternal rest in the early morning of Friday, August 15, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia.
Born on June 29, 1963, to the late James Jones and the late Lille M. Robinson, Michael was raised in Isle of Wight County, where he attended local schools. He later graduated from the Potomac Job Corps Center in Washington, D.C., earning a certificate in Air Conditioning Maintenance.
Michael, affectionately known as "Mike," was a dedicated worker throughout his life. His career included roles as a Bike Mail Carrier and positions at Coca-Cola Company, Hardee's Restaurant, Taco Bell, Piccadilly, Premium Pet Health dog food plant in Smithfield, Richmond Cold Storage (RSC), Smithfield Station, and Smithfield Garden Landscaping.
Mike was known for his joyful spirit and love of life. One of his favorite pastimes was gathering with family for spirited games of cards. Whether it was a quiet Sunday afternoon or a lively holiday evening, he could always be counted on to bring laughter, good-natured teasing, and a competitive spirit to the table. His joy in those moments was infectious, and they remain cherished memories for all who shared them. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and most of all, he deeply loved the Lord.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother Emmit Robinson; four aunts, Vernie Newsome, Elnora Whitley, Eunice Brown, and Hortense Harrell; and four uncles, Horace, Marvin, Clarence and Theodore Robinson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son Taurean Smith, Sr.; six siblings Grayland Robinson, Stanley Robinson (Dorothy), Valerie Robinson-Ford, all of Smithfield; Barry Robinson (Marilyn) of Lincoln Park, MI, Yvette Anderson (Anthony) of Chester, VA and Edith Shivers (K.D.) of Carrollton, VA; one aunt Jonie Ann Davis of Carrollton, VA and one uncle William Robinson (Lillian) of Hampton, VA. He is also survived by two grandchildren Taurean Jr. and London Smith with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
