In Loving Memory of

Mary Ann McFadden

Passed:   Saturday, November 29th, 2025 at 1:42 AM in Carrollton, VA

Mary Ann McFadden (Howard) was born on July 24, 1945 in Edison, Georgia, Calhoun County, to her father, Henry (H.B.) Howard, and her mother, Mary Anna (Davis) Howard. She was raised in Ashford, Alabama, where she graduated from Ashford Colored High School in 1963. In 1964, she moved to New York, beginning a new chapter in life filled with growth, work, and family.

Mary Ann later joined the United States Postal Service, where she served faithfully for many years until retirement. After retiring, she relocated to Virginia in 2017 to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren — the center of her heart.

She enjoyed music, especially Luther Vandross’ Here and Now, and gospel singer Tamela Mann. Plants brought her peace, and she cared for them with the same nurturing spirit she gave to people. She loved Thanksgiving, gathering her family, and watching her favorite soap opera, Young and The Restless. To her grandchildren, she was proudly known as Nana, a name filled with love.

Mary Ann was a woman of generosity — if you lacked, she shared. If you needed, she gave. Her heart was kind, her presence warm, and her love everlasting.

She Leaves to Cherish Her Memory: Her loving husband Virgil L. McFadden; Her three devoted daughters: Denise Graham, Nicole McFadden, Teasha McFadden (husband Lloyd Howell) Grandchildren: Nickaigea Johnson, Nashay Johnson, Tishona Sutton (husband Keandre Sutton),Amya Fields, Kayla Howell, Great-grandchildren: Noelle Leggett, Nyla Johnson, Adrienne Storey, Trey Leggett Jr, Namoni Leggett; Siblings: two sisters Doris Howard (Stringer), Mildred Louise Howard (McQueen) and two brothers Charlie James Howard and Henry Howard .

Also cherishing her memory are a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In Our Hearts

We thought of you today,

But that is nothing new.

We thought about you yesterday,

And days before that too.

We think of you in silence,

We often speak your name.

Now all we have are memories,

And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake,

With which we’ll never part.

God has you in His keeping,

We have you in our heart.
