Mary E. Edwards

Mary Elizabeth Edwards, affectionately known as "Sis Gal" transitioned Monday, December 7, 2020. She was born on July 4, 1954 to the late Robert Lee Turner Sr. and Elizabeth Chambliss-Turner in Southampton County, Virginia. She attended Southampton County Public Schools. Before she became ill, Mary spent her adult life in the service of caring for the elderly while raising two daughters. She enjoyed cooking, listening to gospel music, decorating, making crafts, and taking care of her Pomeranian dog, Tazz. Mary was very fond of her Pastor and Church Family at Triumph In Victory Christian Church. Her favorite scripture was 1 Corinthians 13. She will be remembered for a kind unselfish heart and a strong, but quiet presence. She had a desire to cook and feed people. Most visitors to her home would be fed during their stay and would leave with a plate. In addition to nourishment for the body, Mary also gave nourishment for the soul, as she was sought out for and offered words of wisdom as a side dish with her food. For someone with little, she gave greatly. She conquered doubt with faith, hatred with compassion, and fear with persistence. She was preceded in death by her brothers Milton Turner, Sr. and Robert Turner Jr., uncle, John Turner; aunts; Margaret Stith, Elizabeth Newby and her adored four-legged companion Tazz all of whom were waiting at the gates of heaven to welcome her. Mary was a loving mother, sister, and aunt. She leaves to cherish fond memories, two daughters; Tracy Edwards and Demetria Edwards of Henrico, Va.; brothers; Clarence Turner (Conelle) and James Turner; sisters; Linda Sykes (John), and Margaret Blount (Drew). She also leavers a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends (way too many to list) Although Mary did not have any grandchildren of her own, she treated every family born child as her niece, nephew, or grandchild.
