Mary Copeland

Mary Elizabeth Fleetwood-Copeland, departed this life on Tuesday, April 08, 2024, peacefully with her family by her side in Chesapeake, VA.  Born February 21, 1934, to Cora Delk-Fleetwood and William Fleetwood, Sr. in Isle of Wight County.  Mary attended the Isle of Wight County School System.

 

Mary met and married Mr. Floyd Copeland Sr., and to their union were born three children:  Ms. Gwendolyn Copeland, Mr. Floyd Copeland, Jr. and Ms. Margie Copeland.  She loved and supported her family well.

 

Mary, (affectionately known as “Bae”) committed her life and service to the Lord.   She gave her all in service at Mt. Lebanon Church of God in Christ.  Here she served for many years as Sunday School Superintendent, Sang in the Gospel Choir and faithfully, wholeheartedly as Pastor Aid President.

 

Mary was employed as a domestic worker while also driving for Isle of Wight County Public School and Nansemond Suffolk Academy for over thirty-eight years. She was well-respected in the community and cherished by all her students.  Mary loved the simple pleasures of a good morning walk and working in her flower garden around the house. She also enjoyed baking pies for her family and friends. How could one ever forget her love for dogs, which she had several over the years.  Mary was a sweet, loving person with a humble spirit and will be greatly missed by many.

 

On Friday, April 19, 2024, viewing will be held from 3-5pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. On Saturday, April 20, 2024, A Celebration of Life will take place 12pm at Mt. Lebanon C.O.G.I.C. Suffolk, VA. Please keep the Fleetwood-Copeland family in your thoughts and prayers.
