Marvin L. Pretlow Sr.

On January 1, 2015, Our Heavenly Father called home our beloved Marvin Lonell Pretlow, Sr., to join Him in his Heavenly home. Marvin was born on October 10, 1956 in Surry County, VA. He was an avid cook, gardener, and personal chef to his family on many special occasions, fisherman, and car repairmen. Marvin was indeed a jack-of-all-trades. Often times you could catch him on the corner working diligently with his Brother-in-law Melvin Haskett at Willie Lane Service Station. He was a faithful chef for 11 years at Shields Tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia. When he wasn't there, you could find him with his Father Roger picking vegetables, fixing lawnmowers and cutting grass. When you needed him, he was there without question. Marvin loved life and helping others in need. No task was too great for him. His father, Mervin Young Sr., and his son Marvin Pretlow, Jr preceded Marvin in death. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Gayla Pretlow of the home, his parents Roger & Barbara Morton, Surry, VA, his daughter, Barbara L. Price (Kevin), his sons Travius Haskett (Tanga), Surry, VA and Matthew Pretlow (Dominque) Williamsburg, VA and seven grandchildren who he loved dearly. Additionally, Marvin had his siblings, Francine Johnson (Jimmie), Spring Grove, VA, Jeanette Taylor, Bobby Moton, Thomas Moton, Mervin Young Jr., Mary Young all from Surry, VA, Sharon Eley & Delores Young Newport News, VA. Marvin also gained nine sister-in-laws and six brother-in-laws along with a host of niece, nephews, and other relatives, special friends and co-workers that will miss him sincerely. A Funeral Service will be held 1PM Tuesday January 06, 2015 at Jerusalem Baptist Church Carsley Rd. in Waverly. Viewing will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, January 05, 2015 at the Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Professional Services are being provided by Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield.

A Funeral Service will be held 1PM Tuesday January 06, 2015 at Jerusalem Baptist Church Carsley Rd. in Waverly. Viewing will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, January 05, 2015 at the Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
