Marien H. Eley

Marien H. Eley, affectionately known as “Marie” and “Ree Ree” departed peacefully from this earth on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 1:45 PM, surrounded by her loved ones at the Maryview Nursing Care Center in Suffolk, VA. Marie was born on October 13, 1943, to the late Ollie Sr. and Margaret Holloman in Ivor, VA as one of five siblings. She was a native of Smithfield, VA and she attended the Isle of Wight Training School. Marie worked at ITT Gwaltney for over 33 years. Her home church was Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Ivor, VA and she later joined and became a faithful member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Smithfield, VA. Her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. She enjoyed working outside planting flowers in her yard from sunup to sundown. Her home was where everyone would gather together. Marie also enjoyed making delicious foods for her family to include her famous rice pudding and banana pudding although everyone knows her favorite hobby was shopping. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, David Eley, Sr., her son, David Eley, Jr., and her brothers Leon Holloman and Ollie Holloman, Jr. Marie leaves to cherish her daughters, Sandra Eley of Smithfield, VA, Janice Freeman (Stanley) of Virginia Beach, VA, her grandchildren, Myles Moton of Hampton, VA, Cecelia Moore of Portsmouth, VA, Marcus Freeman of Portsmouth, VA, Marissa Freeman of Virginia Beach, VA, a sister, Estelle White of Smithfield, VA, a brother, Richard Holloman (Helen) of Ivor, VA, sisters-in-law, Mable Howard of Smithfield, VA, Catherine Diggs of Newport News, VA, a brother-in-law, Patrick Eley (Margaret) of Smithfield, VA, a God-daughter, Ebony Carter of Northern VA and a host of nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends. Marie will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace our sweet angel. Psalm 34:18 ESV The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. A Graveside Celebration will be held 11am Friday, August 27, 2021 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will take place Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
