Marie B. King Bailey

On Monday, October 27, 2014, The Lord called Marie Bailey King, our beloved, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and cousin back to Himself. She showed no hesitation as the angels escorted her to her eternal resting place.

Marie was born on March 24, 1923 to the late Lewis Reid and the late Laura Bailey in Isle of Wight County. She was joined in marriage to Vanzelst M. King, Sr. on March 16, 1948 and they remained married for 36 years until his passing on May 25, 1984. To this marriage, four children were born; Vanzelst, Jr., Carol (little), Carol (big) and Miles.

She accepted the Lord and joined Campbell Chapel AME Church at an early age. She loved serving others and became a dedicated doorkeeper for the house of The Lord. She remained a faithful and active member and later joined Christian Home Baptist Church. She loved music and you would often see her nodding her head, patting her feet and/or clapping her hands. She always believed in working hard. Anytime, you might see her out in the yard raking leaves, picking up sticks or planting flowers. She believed that everything has a place and it should be neat and in order.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Carol Warren and Carol Peay; two sons Vanzelst King, Jr. and Miles King; two daughter-in-laws Wanda King and Rita King; two son-in-laws Edward Warren and Joseph Peay; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, October 31st, 2014 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel, 12749 Courthouse Highway Smithfield, VA. Funeral services will take place Saturday, November 1st at Christian Home Baptist Church at 12 noon; 20123 Longview Drive Windsor, VA. Interment at Church cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, October 31st, 2014 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel, 12749 Courthouse Highway Smithfield, VA. Funeral services will take place Saturday, November 1st at Christian Home Baptist Church at 12 noon; 20123 Longview Drive Windsor, VA. Interment at Church cemetery.
